With the rising prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), more parents are seeking alternative treatments to address the underlying symptoms of autism. Traditional medications often fall short of producing desired outcomes for many individuals with autism and their families. However, studies have highlighted hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as a promising treatment option that parents and physicians are increasingly turning to in order to alleviate the effects of ASD. This non-invasive therapy involves simple one-hour daily sessions, during which the parent and child enter a hyperbaric chamber to receive elevated levels of oxygen. HBOT has been demonstrated to reduce inflammation and enhance cognitive functions, significantly benefiting thousands of individuals with ASD.
Research has indicated the following advantages of HBOT for Autism Spectrum Disorders:

In 2009, a multi-center, randomized, controlled, double-blind trial was published in BMC Pediatrics, examining the impact of HBOT on 56 children diagnosed with ASD, aged 2-7. The study involved six separate HBOT centers, where 30 children received 40 one-hour sessions over four weeks, while the remaining 26 children underwent sham treatment. Upon completion of the study, significant improvements were noted in the treatment group’s mean physician Clinical Global Impression scores for overall functioning, receptive language, social interaction, and eye contact, with 80 percent demonstrating improvement. Additionally, major improvements were observed in irritability, stereotypy, hyperactivity, and speech, as measured by the Aberrant Behavior Checklist. Furthermore, substantial improvements were noted in sensory/cognitive awareness, as indicated by ratings on the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist. Both the treated and sham-treated groups found HBOT to be safe and well tolerated by the children and their parents.
