Cardiovascular and Cardiac Conditions
Your heart will beat approximately 2.5 billion times in your lifetime, pumping millions of gallons of blood throughout your body.
As medical teams globally search for new methods to combat heart disease, increasing scientific studies suggest that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) might be beneficial.
Join us to delve into the key findings on hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and its impact on heart health.
Recent research on HBOT and heart health
According to a study by the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research at Shamir Medical Center in Be’er Ya’acov, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can enhance heart functionality in healthy aging individuals.
Healthy patients undergoing HBOT to improve cognitive function followed a 60-session treatment protocol from the Sagol Center. Using high-resolution echocardiography, 31 patients were evaluated before starting HBOT and three weeks post-treatment to assess the sustained effects.
The team observed “an improvement in the heart’s contractility function, meaning the heart muscle contracted more efficiently during the 60-session protocol.” Further research is ongoing.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Heart Attacks
Every year, about 805,000 Americans experience a heart attack, which equates to one occurring every 40 seconds.
A recent study on rats aimed to determine if hyperbaric oxygen therapy could reduce necrosis (tissue death) during myocardial ischemia, a condition where blood flow to the heart is reduced, often leading to a heart attack (myocardial infarction).
The study concluded that HBOT improved redox control and reduced mortality during the acute phase of a heart attack.
We are closely monitoring ongoing HBOT and heart health research.
